Storm Shadow guided and air launched, given by the UK to Ukraine, it is said with a range of 250-300 kms, 398 kms are cited in the CMO database.

Pic from NoelReports: A 250 (yellow) to 300 (blue) km radius applied from Odesa, Kherson, Orikhiv and Kramatorsk gives a rough indication of the reach of Storm Shadow missiles (export version), based on current frontlines. All sovereign Ukrainian territory can be reached with 300km range.
I guess the bridge will be finished off with them.

Re: Naval and Defense News
On May 15, Romanian Air Force officially retired from service the entire MiG-21 fleet. The last 6 jets were flown from 86th and 71st AFBs to 95th air base for long term storage. May 15 was the last day the MiGs could be flown according to a decision from last year. In the last 5 months, several MiG-21s were flown to Bacău, when their flight hours expired. The process was accelerated in the last few weeks. 3 MiGs before takeoff at 86th AFB. These are LanceR C (air superiority) variant equipped with ELTA 2032 radar that allowed usage of R-73 soviet missiles and Magic 2 or Python III western missiles.
The two MiG-21 squadrons (861st and 711st) will be disbanded and new F-16 squadrons will be formed. RoAF has bought 32 F-16 from Norway. No, the MiGs won’t go to Ukraine.
Croatia is the only operator of the MiG-21 in the West right now.

Re: Naval and Defense News
Today news is that not only the Patriot system shot down one or several Kinzhals, but that it was also used vs one or several Russian aircrafts in Russian territory (Bryansk).
This episode happened several days ago and included a Su-34 and Su-35 and 2 Mi-8, at least one of a rare variant, a jammer MTPR-1 version, that by the way is not in the database.

That day it was said that friendly fire was involved. Both causes may be true, of course.

Re: Naval and Defense News
A good mine a bad game. The Patriot was definitely hit during the recent raid. The extent of the hit is debatable. But there was another raid on Kiev last night, and there are videos of different targets being hit. And Patriot's past failures (for example, in Saudi Arabia) do not allow us to speak with confidence about the 100% effectiveness of this air defense weapon.

Nice graphic displaying the flexibility of the F-16
Re: Naval and Defense News
Nice pic taken at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson, Alaska, Northern Edge 23-1. F-117 Nighthawk still present.
And another one to display the huge it is the Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton, recently tenth anniversary of first flight.

Re: Naval and Defense News
In XXI century and days after the event it is not known yet what happened with the Russian intelligence ship, attack failed, attack successful, entering port,... Videos for all the audiences in the eternal information war
Anyway, nice graphic.

Are you speaking of the Patriot's failures thirty years ago?FilitchM2 wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 9:41 pmA good mine a bad game. The Patriot was definitely hit during the recent raid. Take into account that this is only one engagement on video and therefore does not mean that this will happen every time these two will meet each other.
Sounds like CMO
Results (possibly from the same strike) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUjbRps7-Jk

Re: Naval and Defense News
So the WSJ is reporting that among the Russian aircraft shot down by Wagner in their march on Moscow, they appear to have bagged an IL-22 Airborne Command Post aircraft. Has anyone else heard this, and, if so, how'd they manage to do that? I'm not a military strategist but it seems like the sort of aircraft to keep well above and away the fray on the ground. I wonder what AA systems Wagner possesses and how were they able to get a shot at what should be an elusive and hard to reach target? Bad luck? Bad intel on Russia's part as to where the Wagner people were?
Re: Naval and Defense News
I wondered the same thing - MANPADs, but they had other tracked/wheeled based AA assets in the column too. I remember reading something about the composition of the column but did not save it.

I think I saw video of a Pantsir. Not on the computer right now so I can't check max altitude in the DB.

Re: Naval and Defense News
War Zone today:
The aircraft reportedly fell victim to a Pantsir-S1 air defense system. Now there is photographic evidence of the wreckage, showing clearly that it was an Il-22M, which is based on the airframe of the 1950s-era Il-18 four-turboprop airliner. Prior to the loss, the VKS is thought to have had a maximum of 11 Il-22M radio-relay aircraft and a single Il-22K variant with a different equipment fit, although not all of these were likely operational at any given time. The loss of the Il-22M — and a reported 10 crew — is certainly a significant blow to the VKS.

Re: Naval and Defense News
The biggest part of the loss is the crew. Its very hard training to the point of competency in highly technical roles in any air force. I would imagine with the war going on its even harder in Russia.

Radio relay a/c sounds like it's out of the Cold War. Does NATO require these to operate?

JAKARTA, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Indonesia's defence ministry and U.S. planemaker Boeing (BA.N) have signed an agreement on the sale of 24 F-15EX fighter jets to help modernise the Southeast Asian country's ageing fleet, the ministry and the company said.
Officials from the ministry and a Boeing executive signed the memorandum of understanding at Boeing's St. Louis, Missouri, facility on Monday, Boeing said, though it underscored that the transaction was subject to U.S. government approval.
"This state-of-the-art fighter will protect and secure our nation with its advanced capabilities," Indonesian Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto said, according to Boeing's statement.
