Establish Formation Editor Before Units Are Airborne

Post by DWReese »

The game works fine.

I use the Formation Editor, after the planes are already in flight, to set them into a COLUMN FORMATION with a 3-mile separation before the planes drop their ordinance.

I also use the Flight Plan in the Mission Editor to establish the path for my mission.

As I said, I can change the FORMATION after the planes are in flight. That works fine.

What I was wondering is if it is possible to somehow assign a COLUMN FORMATION, with a 3-mile separation, BEFORE they take off?

The ATTACK METHOD in the MISSION EDITOR describes various attack formations, but none of those sound the same as COLUMN FORMATION with a 3-mile separation. Maybe they are the same, but they go by a different name?

Perhaps I'm overlooking something. Anyone know how to do it, if it can even be done at all?

Thanks in advance.

Can't you do it through the Flight Plan editor? I have played around with it, but never really put it through its paces.

edit: Just tested with a CAP and set a trail formation. It seemed to work as expected. There's some error-proofing to keep you from assigning impossible formations. Formations seemed to be limited for certain mission types. Have not explored any deeper than that.
